ABOUT ADOLPH SMITH
Adolph Smith has been in the tennis world for over 40 years, 25 of those years were spent as a tennis instructor. His love of tennis began when he was first introduced to the game at the age of ten. Adolph’s potential caught the attention of the renowned four-time grand slam champion Don Budge. Don Budge spent a considerable amount of his time and effort helping Adolph develop and understand the game.
In 1974 Adolph became a force on the Caribbean tennis circuit, he was subsequently invited by the Jamaican Lawn Tennis Association to join the Jamaican Davis Cup team. Adolph would go on to play in the 1975-1976 Davis Cup. In 1977 with over ten years experience he became a tennis professional working in various hotels in Jamaica while competing on the tennis circuit. He competed in tournaments in Miami, Canada and the Caribbean islands. Adolph secured sponsorship from Prince; one of tennis’ top companies to date Prince continues to be his sponsor.
In 1981 Adolph brought his experience to Washington, he was USPTR certified and worked for three years with the Washington Tennis Center – Washington Foundation. He subsequently moved to Maryland and settled at Circle D Tennis Club, where he manages the summer youth tennis program and offer his professional experience to individuals and groups.
In 2005 Adolph was named by the Maryland USTA Pro of the Year for 2005-2006.
